The Album and Its Meaning

The title ORIADÉ draws from two words in the Yoruba language: ori, which translates to head or destiny, and adé, meaning crown. Combined, the phrase carries the symbolism of a destiny fulfilled and a purpose crowned with achievement — themes that Davido says are deeply tied to both his personal life and his artistic evolution.

In his own words accompanying the announcement, the singer reflected on the faith he placed in music from the very beginning. He described ORIADÉ as a tribute to the road that brought him to his current standing, noting that purpose does not always unfold along a predictable route and that the greatest rewards often come from trusting yourself before the outcome is clear. He also expressed gratitude for the platform he holds in advancing African music on a global scale.

Leading the album’s rollout is the single I Know Who I Be, which dropped on June 26 and serves as the first official preview of what listeners can expect from the full project.

ORIADÉ follows 5ive, Davido’s 2025 album, which secured a top-five position on the World Albums chart and featured collaborations with Victoria Monét, YG Marley, Shenseea, Chris Brown, Becky G, and Omah Lay, among others.

Earlier in 2026, Davido made his debut at the Coachella music festival, delivering a performance that included a surprise appearance from Adekunle Gold. He also joined forces with Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado on No Place Like Home, a track included on the official FIFA World Cup 2026 soundtrack, and performed the song at the tournament’s countdown concert held in Los Angeles.
