Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shared the deeply personal reason she chose to honour her ex-husband at the wedding of their daughter, Priscilla Ojo. Speaking on The Morayo Show with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the actress said she deliberately laid aside old grievances to give her daughter’s marriage a healthier start.

During the interview, Iyabo explained that her decision was rooted in a determination to end what she described as a recurring family pattern. “There’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe it. Christians also. And I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it,” she said.

The actress disclosed that her own parents separated, and she is resolved that her children will walk a different path. “Every mistake they had made, that I have made, my children will not make it,” she stated. That conviction, she said, pushed her to overlook unresolved issues with her former partner so Priscilla could enter married life free of her parents’ baggage.

Iyabo also insisted her ex-husband was fully entitled to a prominent place at the ceremony. “Her father is not dead, he’s alive. So why can’t he be there?” she asked, adding: “He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. That has nothing to do with her. I made the choice to marry him, right? So whatever it is that is going on between me and him, is between me and him. It shouldn’t extend to her.”
