Nigerian street-pop star Portable has disclosed that he has gone back to school and is currently pursuing Business Administration at Kwara Polytechnic. The singer made the revelation during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, where he reflected on a difficult childhood marked by financial hardship and doubt from his own relatives.

Paying School Fees Proved Hard For Portable

According to the singer, his path through education was anything but smooth. He recounted that his family could not cover his secondary school fees, forcing him to hawk sachet water — commonly known as pure water — to raise money to attend classes. “I didn’t finish my education. When I was going to secondary school, I sold pure water to attend ODC. I didn’t see anybody to sponsor me cause the school fees was high,” he said on the podcast.

Portable also revealed that relatives once dismissed him as an “olodo” — a Yoruba term for a dullard — questioning whether he had any academic ability. In a striking reversal, he noted that he has since become the person who provides for those same family members.

Despite those early setbacks, the singer confirmed he has now enrolled at Kwara Polytechnic, where he is combining his studies in Business Administration with an active music career.
