Raye Breaks Down Why Almost Anything Sells Easily in Nigeria
Media personality Raye has offered his explanation for why selling products in Nigeria appears remarkably easy, reportedly attributing it to consumer habits, faith in influencer recommendations and a widespread appetite for fast solutions. His remarks, shared online, have stirred fresh debate about how Nigerians make purchasing decisions.
What Raye Said
According to reports, Raye — who has built a reputation for candid commentary on social media — described Nigerian consumers as some of the most receptive buyers anywhere. He reportedly identified three forces behind this: confidence in influencers, the search for quick fixes, and a cultural pull towards whatever is trending at the moment.
While he acknowledged that these conditions make the country attractive territory for businesses and marketers, he warned that the same openness exposes buyers to fraud and inferior goods. In his view, endorsement culture plays a central role, with many people snapping up items promoted by celebrities or well-known figures without checking whether the products actually deliver.
Raye reportedly argued that this dynamic allows nearly anything to find a market — from dubious beauty items to costly so-called miracle remedies — provided a trusted face is attached to the promotion. He also linked buying behaviour to economic pressure, saying hardship has fuelled demand for products promising rapid results in health, wealth or self-improvement, which in turn sustains a thriving trade in hustle-themed offerings, spiritual solutions and get-rich-quick schemes.
How Raye’s Comments Sparked Consumer Advocacy Debates
The commentary has drawn mixed reactions. Some observers agreed that Nigerian shoppers can be easy prey for savvy marketers, while others pushed back, insisting that tough economic realities leave people little choice but to try whatever solutions they can find.
Beyond the immediate back-and-forth, Raye’s observations have revived a wider conversation about consumer protection, the need for regulation, and the growing influence celebrities and online personalities wield over what people buy. As influencer marketing continues to expand across Nigeria’s digital space, discussions like this one highlight the tension between commercial opportunity and consumer safety — a debate unlikely to fade any time soon.

Chapter 3: The Circus Returns The circus finally got its shit together. Well, they mostly did. Needing performers and a ringleader. The tents were standing again. The lights worked half the time. The stage no longer looked like it would collapse if someone sneezed too hard near it. We still needed more performers, though, and someone had actually to lead this disaster. I ended up being the leader for this circus. Funny how quickly Hell lets you become something new. I started hanging posters all over Hell. Trident: See Hell's greatest show. Sinners started showing up after hearing rumours about a new circus opening in Hell. Some wanted jobs. Some just wanted entertainment. Others looked like they were trying to hide from something. We did have some circus performers come after they saw the posters around saying a new circus was opening. Rumours that there was a circus already. What I did not know is that it is a circus run by my uncle. He is in Hell due to being a scammer, stealing money, and probably killing people too. I remember he was a bad man on earth. But then I learned something that made my blood run cold, made my blood boil. I was sweating when learning this information. This wasn't just my circus. There had already been a circus here before. And it belonged to my uncle, Spear. Apparently, his name is in Hell. Even in Hell, hearing his name made me tense up. Back on Earth, he had been a horrible man. A scammer. A thief. The kind of person who smiled while ruining someone's life. Rumours followed him everywhere, missing money, disappearances, bodies nobody could prove belonged to him. No wonder he was in hell. He definitely belongs here, I can't even remember how he died when on Earth. And somehow he was here first. Of course, he was. One of my circus posters somehow found its way into the Hazbin Hotel. But at the Hazbin Hotel, Charlie Morningstar noticed the circus poster inside the hotel, wondering how it got there. Charlie Morningstar stared at it excitedly while sitting in the lobby. And then my brother Baxter confronted her about it. Charlie: A new circus? Oh my goodness, that sounds like so much fun. I need to see this in action. Baxter walked over and gently took the poster from her hands. His eyes narrowed immediately. Baxter: Let me take a look at this poster. Wait, who is this dolphin demon? Charlie: His name is Trident, the poster says. Something about the name made Baxter uneasy, though he couldn't explain why. Charlie clapped her hands together. Seems she was the only one excited to go. Charlie: We should totally visit! Maybe they'd want the hotel's help promoting it! I would love to do that. Vaggie: As long as we're not bringing more sinners back to the hotel for redemption. We already have enough chaos. Charlie: We do have enough sinners. I just want to see what the circus is all about. Husk: I'm gonna need a drink before I go anywhere near creepy clowns. Baxter: Thankfully, I don't drink. Cherri: Fat Nuggets would love a circus. Honestly, though, Angel would probably love it too. He'd totally perform there. Baxter: I can see that spider doing that. Husk: The guy already performs as a drag queen at the old casino that I used to own. Cherri: Oh shit, you're right, I forgot about that. I still gotta go to one of his shows someday. Husk: He actually looks happy during them. But when he is with Val, he is a fucking mess. We need to get him home. From somewhere nearby came Niffty's tiny, excited voice. She, of course, had a knife in his little hands. She stabbed Adam, so they know she is down to stab more Angels and not Angel Dust. She loves Angel Dust. Nifty: Stab, stab. Alastor: Now, my dear, I don't believe stabbing Valentino is the correct solution. Even though it would bring Angel back. Though I do admire the enthusiasm. Nifty: We have to bring my roaches. They can play music while you're trying to save Angel. Charlie: No stabbing at least. Nifty: Damn. The group wanted to go to this new circus. Charlie went to find her father, Lucifer, to see if he wanted to come. Maybe there were ducks at the circus. That would get him to go. Charlie: Oh! I should ask my dad if he wants to come! Vaggie: Why would Lucifer want to go to a circus? Charlie: There might be ducks. Vaggie: Ducks performing at the circus, that would be something new. Go get him and see if he wants to come. Charlie: I will. Charlie goes to her dad's room to see if he wants to come to the circus. Of course, he is seen covered in rubber ducks. But she wasn't shocked by this. She knocked quietly and carefully on her dad's bedroom door. No answer straight away. She slowly pushed them open anyway. Charlie: Dad? The room was a complete disaster. Charlie tried not to step on any rubber ducks or anything at all. Rubber ducks covered almost every possible surface. Ducks wearing tiny crowns. Ducks with fake mustaches. Ducks dressed like vampires, firefighters, and pirates. One was somehow hanging from the chandelier. Charlie wasn't surprised at all. I mean, it's Lucifer Morningstar; he loves his ducks and his apples. And in the middle of all of it sat Lucifer Morningstar himself, buried beneath a mountain of yellow rubber ducks like some kind of exhausted king ruling over a bathtub kingdom. The king of hell, more like the king of ducks, am I right? She then hears a tiny squeak echoed as he accidentally rolls onto another duck. Charlie: You've… been busy. With ducks I see. How many ducks are in here? Lucifer looked up dramatically, dark circles under his eyes. Seemed like someone was sleeping, maybe dreaming about ducks? Knowing him, yes. Lucifer: Charlie, welcome. He held up a rubber duck wearing a top hat. He looked like he just got out of bed. Oh, wait, his duck bed, it seems. Lucifer: Meet Sir Quackson the Third. He understands me. I don't know where the first or second are. Probably got lost in my pool of ducks here. The duck squeaked, of course. Charlie stepped over several ducks just to reach him. Lucifer did the same thing, too. Charlie: Sooo… Dad, I wanted to ask you something. Lucifer: Does it involve sinners? No, maybe ducks? No apples? I am hungry after that nap. Charlie: A little bit. Lucifer: Does it have to do with taxes? Charlie: In Hell? No. Lucifer: Are you finally getting therapy? Charlie: No dad. Definitely not. Lucifer visibly relaxed. Charlie held up one of the circus posters. Charlie: A new circus opened in Hell. Lucifer: A circus, huh? As long as there are ducks. (Lucifer stared at the poster for a moment.) Charlie: The Hazbin crew is going to check it out, and I thought maybe you'd want to come too! And yes, you are part of the crew too, before you ask. Lucifer opened his mouth to decline automatically, and then his eyes landed on a tiny detail near the bottom of the poster. A cartoon duck mascot wearing clown makeup. His expression changed instantly. Lucifer: They have ducks? Sign me up. Daddy is ready. Charlie: Yeah, don't call yourself daddy again. Within seconds, Lucifer shot to his feet so fast that several rubber ducks exploded outward across the room. Lucifer: I am in for sure. Charlie: A piece of cake. That was easy. And no duck-shaped cake. But does sound cute and delicious. Lucifer pointed at her dramatically. Lucifer: Charlie, you fail to understand the importance of circus ducks. Charlie: Of course I do. One of them might not even be real. Lucifer: That somehow makes it more important. Let's go duck hunting. Charlie: Dad, just remembered you can't bring any home if they're real ones. But rubber ducks take as many as you want. Why am I endorsing this addiction? Charlie smiled softly as Lucifer immediately began searching through piles of ducks for what appeared to be a fancy circus outfit. For the first time in a while, He actually seemed excited about something. Charlie and Lucifer head back to the lobby. Baxter, Vaggie, Husk, Cherri, and Nifty are waiting. Cherri is holding Fat Nuggets as always. And Alastor is trying to piss Lucifer off as usual. Sir Pentious is watching from heaven and is jealous. Emily wishes she could go to the circus too. Oh, wait, there's a way for them too. Abel wanted to go. Lute, being angry still, was just jealous that her ex-girlfriend was happy and not with her. Vaggie and Lute dated for some time when Vaggie was once an angel. Charlie and Lucifer returned to the hotel lobby together. Well, everyone was seen waiting for them. Well, the word returned was quite generous at this very moment. Lucifer was still covered in rubber ducks. Lucifer: I'm still covered in rubber ducks, aren't I? Charlie: Yes, Dad. Several of them were hanging from his coat. One sat on his shoulder like a tiny royal advisor. Another somehow squeaked every time he walked. Husk stared at him from the bar. Husk: I am not even asking. I'm just taking another drink before we go. I'm gonna regret seeing these creepy clowns. Lucifer: Good. Because you lack the intellectual capacity to understand circus ducks. Husk: I am more of a smart kitty when it comes to my alcohol. Alastor appeared beside him almost instantly with a grin sharp enough to cut glass, definitely a jump scare. Alastor: My, my, Lucifer! You look positively radiant today. Did Alastor just compliment Lucifer? Lucifer narrowed his eyes immediately. And of course, he wanted to know why he was still here. Lucifer: Why are you here? Alastor: To annoy you, of course. Just kissing already. I swear the sexual tension between them, but Alastor is asexual, so even if they got together, sex is off the table. Lucifer: That is fair, Alastor. Charlie clapped excitedly before either of them could escalate further. Everyone is listening and looking at her. Charlie: Good news! Dad's coming with us to the circus! Nifty: Do they have knives?! Stab, stab. Charlie: I sure hope not. Nifty: Aww. Cherri was questioning things about this circus. She is seen leaning back on the couch in the lobby. Cherri: I still think this whole thing sounds sketchy as Hell. Baxter: Everything seems sketchy in Hell. Husk: Baxter is right. We are in Hell after all. Also, that explains the creepy clown vibes. Baxter stood near the poster again, still staring at the image of Trident printed across it. Something about the dolphin demon continued bothering him in a way he couldn't explain. Is he thinking he knows this Trident fellow? His chest tightened slightly every time he looked at the name. Baxter: Trident, why am I getting a feeling about you? Why did it feel familiar? Vaggie: Hey Baxter, you okay? Baxter: Yeah. Lucifer suddenly pointed at the poster dramatically. He was just too excited about the ducks, of course, he was. He was so cute when he talked about his love for ducks. Lucifer: If this circus does not contain at least one duck, I am leaving immediately. Charlie: Of course you would. But Dad, there might be balloon ducks. Lucifer: This is already the greatest circus in Hell. Let's set this show on the road. I'm ready for my ducks. Charlie: We are on the way. Circus in Hell, here we come. But now, it seems far above Hell itself. Sir Pentious watched everything from Heaven with visible jealousy. He is handsome in his Angel outfit, and we know he misses Cherri Bomb. The two of them are so cute. Sir Pentious: You mean to tell me there is a circus happening and I am trapped up here? I wanna go. Emily: I wanna go too. Abel: Wait, why can't we? Sir Pentious: Because we are in Heaven? Emily: Actually, we can. A glowing portal slowly began forming nearby. Sir Pentious stared. And then Abel stared. Emily smiled innocently. It was time for them to go to Hell and see this circus for themselves, too. Emily: There are technically no rules saying we can't visit for a little while. Sera: Just be careful, you three. Sir Pentious: Oh, this is either a wonderful idea or a catastrophic one. Do you remember the last time you went down to Hell? Elsewhere in Heaven, Lute looked absolutely furious after overhearing the conversation. She was either missing Adam too hard or hating on Vaggie. She was all by herself as a bisexual. Loving Adam and trying to hate Vaggie for breaking her heart? Lute: Oh, of course, Vaggie gets to go have fun, while I'm in heaven, not able to get my revenge on you. One of the nearby angels slowly backed away. Lute crossed her arms tightly, wings twitching with irritation. Lute: It wasn't fair. Vaggie had moved on so easily. Once upon a time, before the fall, before Hell, before Charlie, they had been together. And now Vaggie looked happy without her. That was the part Lute hated most, not the betrayal, not the breakup, but the happiness. Meanwhile, Emily happily dragged Abel and Pentious toward the portal. Emily: Time to go to the circus. Sir Pentious: We're going to the circus! Abel: I am ready. While everyone is on the way to the circus, Angel is dealing with Val, of course. But Trident needed more decorations for the grand opening of the circus. Doing so, he gets into a dark alley and finds a trashcan, but for some reason, the trashcan is moving, and there is light coming from it. When it goes over, he notices a porcupine demon covered in trash. The porcupine gets out of the trash. His name is Spike. And this is when he meets the love of his life. Does he know this yet? Nope. A gay demon and a bisexual demon falling in love. While this is happening, everyone else is getting things done and ready. Chessie, Lavander, Boxer, Lolly, and Raye are there. And of course, Spear hears about his nephew's circus and wants to ruin it for good. But Soear didn't know that his nephews were in hell. He didn't even know his own brother was there too, our father, the father to Baxter and me. Mom could be in heaven, but last I knew, she was still alive. Our mother was a good person who never did anything deserving of Hell. If she was not already in Heaven, then perhaps Heaven gained an angel when she did pass. Neither my brother nor I truly knew. All we know is that she is gone from our world, just like the rest of our family. Baxter, dad, uncle and I are in Hell. Still do not understand why my brother was here. The Hazbin group headed to Trident's Circus. Abel, Emily and Sir Pentious were also descending from Heaven. Unaware of their arrival, Cherri Bomb did not know that the man she loved was on his way. What none of them fully realised yet was that Hell itself seemed to shift slightly around the idea of it, like something important was finally in motion. And from above, Abel, Emily, and Sir Pentious descended from Heaven, drawn by curiosity, excitement, and, in Pentious's case, pure jealousy. Sir Pentious: I still cannot believe there is a circus and I was not informed sooner. Emily: It's going to be fun! Abel: Or a disaster. Sir Pentious: Those are not mutually exclusive! At the same time, Cherri Bomb laughed loudly as she walked with the group. She was quite excited for this trip to the circus that Trident is hosting. Not going to the bad circus run by Spear, his uncle. Cherri: I still can't believe Angel's missing all of this. Husk: He's dealing with Val. That's already its own kind of circus. Charlie: We'll get him out of that situation too, somehow. Cherri: We'd better. Lucifer, meanwhile, floated slightly behind them, completely distracted. Lucifier: I cannot wait to collect more rubber duckies for my collection. Charlie: Dad, hey, don't you think you might need another room at this point? Lucifer: I heard that, and I do not have a problem. I love my rubber ducks. Everyone has something they enjoy. Husk has alcohol. Cherri has violence. Charlie has optimism. Cherri: Hey! (She is seen snapping at him.) Husk: Your dad is right there. The King of Hell has a point. Lucifer: Thanks, whiskers. Cherri: Only Angel calls you that. Husk: He sure does. The mood shifted slightly at that reminder. Husk missed Angel so much. He is thinking not just because he is his best friend, maybe because of his mixed feelings for Angel. Husk: We need to get his contract back from Valentino. One way or another. Cherri: We will. Elsewhere in Hell, Trident carefully helped Spike back to the circus he rebuilt, back through the circus entrance. Spike still had bits of trash stuck in his quills, but he looked less like a walking garbage pile and more like a dishevelled survivor. Spike: Is this your home? Trident: Yeah, well, it is mine. Sort of. Spike: You own a circus? No creepy clowns, please. I mean, you have clown make-up on, but you do not scare me. You did at first, but my hero came to save me. Trident: I guess I do now, it seems. Spike: That's kind of stupid, but in a cute way. Trident: Yeah. It is. A beat of silence passed. But what Trident or Spike did not know yet but they met the love of their lives in each other. Their meeting was meant to be and symbolises how Charlie and Vaggie met when Vaggie was taken out of Heaven. Spike: I like it. Trident: Welcome home now. That was all he said. But something about the way he said it made Trident feel weirdly warm inside. He didn't understand it yet. He just knew he didn't want Spike to leave. In the end, Spike stayed; he never leaves and won't leave ever, not after Trident saved his life. Back outside the circus grounds, shadows began to gather at the edge of the city. Spear had arrived. He stared at the lights in the distance, his expression twisted with anger. Spear: So someone really had the nerve to. Rebuild my old circus. Let's see how long it lasts.
