Big Brother Naija star Alexandra Asogwa, popularly known as Alex, has publicly criticised the way the release of kidnapped schoolchildren in Oyo State was received, arguing that gratitude to President Bola Tinubu appeared to come before any concern for the victims themselves. The pupils and teachers regained their freedom on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, after more than 50 days in captivity.

Alex Asks Why the Children’s Welfare Came Second to Political Praise

In a post online that has since gone viral, the reality star and actress questioned the priorities on display when the abductees were freed. “What was the first care when those children were released? ‘Thank you Mr President.’ What about the children? Did you ask about their well-being? Did you check if they were okay? Did you check if they had eaten? It’s giving clout chasing and lack of empathy,” she reportedly wrote.

According to reports, the abduction involved 37 pupils and teachers taken from their school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Their release followed intense negotiations and sustained pressure from the government and security agencies, an outcome many Nigerians welcomed with relief.

Alex insisted that the immediate focus should have been on securing proper medical and psychological support for the children and their teachers after such a harrowing ordeal, rather than on political optics. She has stood by her position, maintaining that the welfare of victims must always come before public displays of appreciation.
