Jide Kosoko Urges Nigerians to Give President Tinubu More Time Before Judging His Government

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has waded into the ongoing debate over President Bola Tinubu’s performance in office, appealing to Nigerians not to write off the administration before its policies have had a chance to mature. Speaking in an interview with FeelrightnewsTV, the elder statesman of Nigerian cinema argued that the government’s reforms deserve more time to yield visible results.

Kosoko Compares Governing Nigeria to an Unfinished Building

Illustrating his position, Kosoko likened running a country to a construction project, insisting that no fair verdict can be passed on a structure that is still being built. “If you are building a house, you cannot assess such a building and give it a pass mark until the building is completed,” he said during the interview.

The actor also reminded Nigerians that the President is human and bound to fall short at times. “Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not God. That means he cannot be perfect,” he stated, cautioning against expectations of flawless leadership.

Kosoko went further, alleging that opposition figures are deliberately crafting narratives to turn young Nigerians — particularly Gen Z — against the government. “They know you, Gen Z. You are easy to manipulate and control. Once they control you, you will all go on overdrive,” he warned. He also claimed that some self-styled activists quietly collect money from those in power while posing as independent critics, saying, “The so-called activists, we know how they take money from government but come out to influence citizens.”

While admitting that many citizens are enduring real economic hardship, Kosoko dismissed direct cash handouts as impractical for a country of Nigeria’s size, urging patience instead as the administration’s reforms take shape.

A Nollywood Elder Speaks Into a Tense National Mood

Kosoko’s intervention lands at a difficult moment, with the Tinubu government under sustained public pressure over rising food inflation, persistent insecurity and widespread anxiety about the future. Voices from the entertainment world often carry significant weight in Nigeria’s political conversation, and few carry more seniority than Kosoko, who has spent close to six decades in the industry, appeared in more than 200 films, and currently chairs the board of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).

Predictably, his remarks have divided opinion. Some Nigerians have backed his plea for patience, while others counter that citizens have already waited long enough to see concrete improvements in their daily lives.
