Alex Onyia Alleges Major CBT Glitch in WAEC’s 2026 WASSCE Results, Threatens Court Action

Education consultant and Educare CEO Alex Onyia has publicly accused the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of releasing 2026 WASSCE results marred by what he describes as a disastrous fault in its Computer-Based Testing system. In a post on X made hours after the results dropped, Onyia demanded that the council withdraw and fix the scores immediately, warning that he would head to court if it failed to act.

“WAEC, you can’t toy with our children’s destinies,” Onyia reportedly wrote in the post, which rapidly attracted thousands of views and dozens of responses, many from anxious parents and candidates who said they shared his fears.

The alleged glitch is not the only cloud hanging over the release. WAEC disclosed that 61.54% of candidates earned credits in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics — a decline of 1.42 percentage points from 2025. A further 167,486 candidates, about 8.59% of the total, had their results withheld over suspected malpractice, while 116,031 results were still being processed.

Candidates also reported early problems on the result portal, including error messages stating “Result not available for this candidate” and “Result checker card has been used by another candidate”. WAEC had not responded to Onyia’s allegations as of the time of reporting, though it previously branded a viral list of schools with withheld results as “FAKE NEWS”.

From the 2025 UTME Crisis to WAEC’s CBT Expansion

Onyia’s intervention carries weight because of his history of confronting Nigerian examination bodies. During the 2025 UTME controversy, he rejected JAMB’s explanation of widespread score anomalies as a simple glitch, arguing instead that a flawed fraud-detection algorithm was responsible and highlighting candidates whose scores swung dramatically between sittings. He also said more than 100 students had contacted him describing suicidal thoughts, pressure that helped push JAMB into a probe which later validated several of his concerns.

His latest claims also land against WAEC’s own recent promises. National Office head Dr Amos Josiah Dangut had assured the public there would be no repeat of the 2025 problems, when a flawed paper-serialisation system forced a temporary withdrawal of results, and revealed that CBT adoption grew from under 40 schools in 2025 to roughly 450 in 2026. With Onyia signalling legal action, the standoff appears set to escalate.
