A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to recount a harrowing travel experience in which she and several other passengers were abandoned on the road overnight after the interstate night bus they boarded from Nsukka to Lagos developed a mechanical fault. The incident, which she shared via her TikTok account on July 2, 2026, has since attracted widespread attention online.

According to the lady, identified online as @dee395010, the trouble began roughly an hour and thirty minutes into the journey from Nsukka, when the bus they had booked for the overnight trip suddenly broke down. The driver reportedly attempted repairs on the spot, but his efforts proved unsuccessful, leaving the passengers with no choice but to spend the night stranded on the roadside.

In a video she recorded of herself and fellow travellers, she explained that by approximately 5:00 a.m. the following morning, both the bus driver and the conductor had quietly boarded a separate vehicle belonging to the same transport company — one that was travelling in the opposite direction, from Lagos back to Nsukka. The crew told the stranded passengers they were heading off to source a mechanic, but according to the lady, the passengers quickly came to the collective conclusion that the bus was simply not going to complete the journey to Lagos in its current condition.

Faced with that reality, the passengers resolved to return to Nsukka to either demand a refund or be placed on a roadworthy vehicle. However, their location presented a further complication — the road they were on was not a standard lane for buses or private cars, but rather one designated for heavy-duty trucks such as trailers and tippers. As a result, no conventional buses passed through that stretch to offer them assistance.

The Journey Back

Left with limited options, the stranded passengers turned to trailer drivers on the route for help. They reportedly paid fares ranging from 200 naira to 1,000 naira each — varying amounts paid informally — and were transported back to Nsukka aboard the trailers. The lady described what she shared online as only “the short version” of the full ordeal, suggesting the experience was even more eventful than what her video captured.

The story has resonated widely with Nigerians online, many of whom are familiar with the challenges and unpredictability that can accompany long-distance interstate travel by road in the country.
