Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has stepped in to help a young Nigerian scholar, Adisa Blessing Oluwafikayo, after she publicly sought financial help to take up a fully funded Master’s scholarship in Italy. The former lawmaker announced on X that he would settle the outstanding costs of her relocation, according to reports.

Saraki Pledges to Pay Blessing’s Travel Costs

Blessing had taken to X to appeal for support, explaining that she finished with a first-class degree in Mathematics from the University of Ilorin, posting a CGPA of 4.76 out of 5.0. In the same post, she revealed that she had won a fully funded Master’s scholarship in Mathematics at the University of Calabria in Italy, but still needed money to complete her move abroad.

Her appeal caught the attention of Saraki, who replied with warm congratulations. He described her record as inspiring and said it reflected the promise found in many young Nigerians. In his words, no student who had put in that level of work should see such an opportunity slip away because of travel expenses.

The former Senate President then committed to paying whatever remained of her relocation bill, adding that a member of his team, identified as Nancy, would get in touch with Blessing the same day to arrange the support. He closed by urging her to excel and continue making Nigeria proud.

Reports indicate the gesture quickly generated widespread applause online, with many Nigerians praising Saraki for backing academic excellence and giving a deserving graduate a clear path to further study overseas.
