Fulham have named Alvaro Arbeloa as their new head coach, handing the Spaniard a three-year deal at Craven Cottage. The 43-year-old fills the vacancy created by Marco Silva, who ended a five-year spell in west London to take over at Benfica.

Former Madrid Coach Secures Craven Cottage Role

Arbeloa arrives after departing Real Madrid at the close of last season, where he stepped up from a youth coaching role to lead the first team on an interim basis once Xabi Alonso left in January. He oversaw the final 28 games of Madrid’s campaign, securing a second-place finish in La Liga before a Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.

On his unveiling, Arbeloa described the move as the start of a new chapter and called it an honour to join what he referred to as London’s oldest club, adding that he felt a deep sense of responsibility and gratitude towards Shahid Khan and Tony Khan for their trust in him.

Chairman Shahid Khan hailed the new man’s ambition, noting he had spent time around the game’s top players, clubs and methods. Khan also highlighted Arbeloa’s enthusiasm for Fulham’s academy, his belief in giving young players opportunities, and his commitment to attacking football.

Before accepting the role, Arbeloa reportedly received endorsements from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the club’s new manager Jose Mourinho. Fulham had weighed up alternatives, including former Tottenham and Brentford boss Thomas Frank, while a pursuit of ex-Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna was abandoned over the overall cost of the deal. According to reports, Arbeloa now wants summer reinforcements and has eyes on Madrid trio Franco Mastantuono, Fran Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia.
