Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi made an unannounced stop at the Abuja home of businessman Isaac Fayose on Saturday, only hours after Fayose publicly threatened to abandon the politician’s camp. The visit, captured in a video Fayose shared on his Instagram page, appeared to defuse days of mounting tension between the two men.

From Angry Video to Warm Welcome at Fayose’s Abuja Home

Earlier that same day, Fayose had released a video threatening to pull his backing from Obi, accusing the former Anambra governor of failing to acknowledge the effort and personal sacrifice he put into the 2023 election campaign. In the clip, he also professed admiration for the nation’s leader, saying, “I’m a Yoruba man, and I love President Tinubu and his son”.

The friction reportedly began when a viral video showed Fayose alongside Seyi Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest and others praying for President Bola Tinubu. Supporters of Obi’s movement, popularly known as Obidients, reacted angrily, with some accusing the businessman of having been financially compromised.

Fayose pushed back against the criticism, listing what he described as his contributions to Obi’s campaign — spending his own money, opening up his hotel to supporters and joining protests. By Saturday evening, however, the mood had shifted entirely. Welcoming Obi into his home, Fayose declared, “It’s not every day the President comes to your house. Our incoming president. So shall it be, in Jesus’ name”. He went on to reaffirm his allegiance, insisting, “I am 100 per cent Obidient. So you better be Obidient. We are together, and we are winning”.

Obi, for his part, played down the online attacks on his host, suggesting that many of those who had insulted Fayose were not genuine members of his movement.
